New Public Middle and High School for Math, Science and Engineering

Commitment Title

New Public Middle and High School for Math, Science and Engineering

Commitment

Columbia has collaborated with the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) and has already agreed to provide the land necessary (via a rent-free, 49-year lease) to create a new public secondary school that will address the critical need to improve education in science, math and engineering for students in New York City on a site immediately adjacent to or within the Project Site.

CU offered land to the NYCDOE at West 125th Street via a rent-free 49-year lease. The NYCDOE has decided not to proceed with construction of a new public school building at this location and will instead undertake upgrades to Columbia’s Secondary School for the school’s long-term occupancy.
